Hekmat Law Group attorneys are investigating reports that dairy farms are not treating their cows as advertised by various dairy companies. Many companies advertise that their products are sourced from humane, pasture-based, and/or small-scale family farms, where standard or animal care exceed those of other dairy companies. Consumers pay a premium for milk products with similar claims because raising cattle on more land costs farmers more money.

Last year, the Animal Legal Defense Fund filed a lawsuit against the Tillamook County Creamery Association for its alleged misrepresentations about the the conditions in which the company’s cows live. While the company advertised receiving it’s milk from small co-op family farms, those farms allegedly represented a tiny proportion of the company’s production and that vast majority of cows are raised in inhumane, industrialized conditions. “Rather than living freely on the rolling green hills depicted in Tillamook advertising, the cows are artificially impregnated, have their calves ripped from them shortly after birth to stimulate milk production, and are continuously confined and milked by robotic carousels at this cement-floored factory farm.”
